I just recently got back from a great vacation overseas. Do you think I took a laptop to trade while I was gone? You bet I did!
In the process of making sure I was taking everything I needed for trading, I realized I’ve never written about the do’s and don’ts of trading on the road.
You may have seen my other posts on how to choose a laptop for trading. Now I’d like to talk about how to get the most from that purchase decision.
Specifically, I want to give you some tips to ensure your laptop-based trading results are just as good as you would get on a desktop computer. (more…)
If you’re like most traders, you spend a lot of your time thinking about how to improve your trading results and, ultimately, your life. You’re dreaming up new strategies, thinking about stocks you want to research more, wondering how you can implement something you just read, or even just deciding what you want to accomplish tomorrow.
I’m guessing a lot of your best ideas come when you aren’t sitting at your computer.
Maybe things just pop into your conscious brain first thing in the morning, while you’re still in bed. (more…)

If you’ve ever been organized in any aspect of your life, you’ve probably used a cheatsheet or checklist. Cheatsheets are available for tasks ranging from military operations to baby sitting. Last spring, I wrote a post on spring cleaning your computer. That article was all about getting rid of unnecessary files and defragmenting your hard drive. It’s obvious that keeping the inner (data storage) workings clean will improve your computer’s performance (and, ultimately, your trading performance). What might not be quite so obvious is that […]
Remember back when you only had one monitor? Remember how frustrating it was to have a bunch of windows all jumbled on top of each other so you had to dig for the one you wanted? Unfortunately, that can still happen even if you have 8 monitors like I do. I’ve learned to be careful […]
Have you ever been on a nice, long walk and suddenly there’s pebble in your shoe? That happened to me the other day. I didn’t want to take the time to get rid of that pebble. I just wanted to keep walking. But the further I walked with that pebble in my shoe, the more […]
Have you seen the ads lately for wireless routers that are attractive enough to set on a bookshelf in plain view? Yes, routers and modems are generally one of the least attractive pieces of equipment you own. Crafty people have been devising all sorts of eye-pleasing hiding boxes for these little “uglies” for years. For […]
