At the start of the business day, you are trying to log into your account at Investors Business Daily – same browser and credentials as always. Yet, you are getting an error message. The web page says you are not authorized to log-in. Has this ever happened to you?
If you are like most users, you might have experienced one or more of the following issues with your web browser:
- Video won’t play – The video appears to be broken or won’t load.
- Can’t Log-in – You are unable to log on to your membership site even though you know your credentials are correct.
- Buttons Don’t Work – When trying to complete a purchase and the submit button doesn’t work.
- Updates Causing Issues – You’ve updated your software and now your web browser doesn’t seem to be working.
- Web browser unusually slow – web pages that normally load quickly have issues loading or take longer than normal to completely load.
Would you believe that ALL of these issues can be solved in only a few minutes? Yep. It’s that simple. If you find yourself dealing with these issues, most often a simple fix of clearing your web browser’s cookies and cache is all you need to do.
We get questions about this often enough that I thought I would make a quick post to show you just how simple it is. All you have to do is select your browser from this list:
Google Chrome
Step 1:
Access your browser data by simply pasting this link in your browser address bar: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData . Simply hit enter once that link is pasted in your address bar and hit enter to make the browsing data screen appear. Note: You may also use a keyboard shortcut to open Clear Browsing Data menu. With your web browser screen open and selected simply hit Ctrl + Shift + Del.
Alternative Option: Select the hidden menu button in the right upper corner of your open browser screen. Now that the hidden menu is open, you will be able to select Tools. This should be found near the middle of the menu. Once Tools is selected, you next need to select clear browsing data.
Step 2:
Select the following two options on the clear browsing data screen.
- Cookies and other site and plugin data
- Cached images and files
Step 3:
Optional – You may also choose at this time to clear out your browsing and download history. However, please be aware that this will remove any history of the websites you have visited. This may cause issues if you rely on this to create shortcuts for you when typing in commonly visited websites. Choosing to not clear this data will not effect our purposes to solve the issues you may have been experiencing with your web browser.
Step 4:
Select “Clear browsing data”. Exit or quit all open Chrome windows. Mission complete. You may now continue to use your browser as normal.
Firefox
Step 1:
Access your browser data by simply selecting the hidden menu dropdown button from the upper right side of your open browser window. Next select History. A new menu will open after you select history. Now select clear recent history. Note: You may also use a keyboard shortcut to open the Clear All History menu. With your web browser screen open and selected simply hit Ctrl + Shift + Del.
Step 2:
Once in the Clear All History screen appears, the first step is to select the “time range to clear”. For our purposes you will want to set this to Everything. Next select the boxes next to Cookies and Cache.
Step 3:
Optional – You may also choose at this time to clear out your browsing and download history. However, please be aware that this will remove any history of the websites you have visited. This may cause issues if you rely on this to create shortcuts for you when typing in commonly visited websites. Choosing to not clear this data will not effect our purposes to solve the issues you may have been experiencing with your web browser.
Step 4:
Next select cookies and cache and press the “Clear Now” button. Exit or quit all open Chrome windows. Mission complete. You may now continue to use your browser as normal.
Internet Explorer
Step 1:
Access the browsing history menu by selecting the gear button in the upper right hand portion of your open browser window. Note: You may also use a keyboard shortcut to open the Delete browsing history menu. With your web browser screen open and selected simply hit Ctrl + Shift + Del.
Step 2:
Select “Temporary Internet Files” & “Cookies”. Ensure that the top radio button titled “preserve Favorites website data is unselected.
Step 3:
Optional – You may also choose at this time to clear out your browsing and download history. However, please be aware that this will remove any history of the websites you have visited. This may cause issues if you rely on this to create shortcuts for you when typing in commonly visited websites. Choosing to not clear this data will not effect our purposes to solve the issues you may have been experiencing with your web browser.
Step 4:
Now select the “Delete” button at the bottom of the delete browsing history window. Exit or quit all open Internet Explorer windows. Mission complete. You may now continue to use your browser as normal.
