How to Choose
The Score, Not the Model Name
45,000 is the bare minimum in 2026. Do not build to the minimum — aim for the high 50s if you want a machine that is still quick in three or four years. Two chips with similar names can be thousands of points apart, and any chip with a U at the end of its name was built for battery life, not trading. Test the laptop you own now — it takes about two minutes, and most people are surprised.
Thermal Throttling Kills Trading Laptops
A processor makes heat when it works hard, and trading works it hard all day. When a laptop gets too hot it quietly slows itself down to protect itself. Your benchmark might say 58,000, but if the cooling cannot keep up, an hour into the session that chip is running at a fraction of it — no warning, no error message. Do not just ask about the score. Ask what keeps it from collapsing under heat.
NVMe Gen 4 or Gen 5, Not Just "SSD"
For 2026 an NVMe M.2 drive is a requirement, not a nice-to-have. It plugs straight into the motherboard and rides the same high-speed lane your graphics card uses. Every time your platform loads a historical chart, saves a workspace or opens your indicator library, that drive speed is what you feel. If a spec sheet only says "SSD", keep asking — you want PCIe Gen 4 or Gen 5.

It Needs an Ethernet Port
