How To Upgrade Adobe Flash To Avoid Internet Security Issues

Have you recently visited a website only to see some of the content was blocked? Even if you were on Amazon.com or Ebay.com you may have received a message about needing to upgrade Adobe Flash.

Don’t ignore this message. Every trader should take three minutes to upgrade their installation of Adobe Flash. Not upgrading could cause your computer to become vulnerable.

The team at Mozilla made this announcement on social media last week:

In today’s video I want to address this important security concern. Users of Firefox and Chrome web browsers will need to upgrade Adobe Flash. The development teams of these popular internet browsers have chosen to proactively discontinue support. This is highly unusual. However, it shows the importance of upgrading. Both Mozilla and Google have opted to force us all to upgrade for our safety.

How to Upgrade Adobe Flash on Google Chrome:

If you are using Google Chrome, they make updating Adobe Flash very simple.

  1. Click on the upper right corner of Chrome. There are three dashed lines. Left click on those lines.
  2. When a menu appears, mouse down to the item that says, “About…”
  3. Next Google will load a new tab in your browser.
  4. Google will check for updates. A new update will download (if you’ve already done this step, Chrome will say “up to date” on this screen).
  5. Once the update is complete, exit Chrome.
  6. Restart chrome. You’ve completed the Adobe Flash update for Chrome.

How to Upgrade Adobe Flash on Mozilla Firefox:

If you are using Firefox, there are a few more steps, but it’s pretty straight forward. Here’s what you should do.

  1. Go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.
  2. FIRST, IMPORTANT – On this page uncheck “Install McAfee”. This is a very deceiving upsell. If you don’t need it, uncheck the box.
  3. Next left click the yellow button to download the software.
  4. Open the .exe file you just downloaded.
  5. Left click “Run” to execute the install of the latest version of Adobe Flash.
  6. You will see a processing graphic as it downloads and installs.
  7. Once the software is installed you will be redirected to a “step 3” page. You don’t need to do anything on this page. This is another upsell from Adobe. Ignore it.
  8. Shut down Firefox.
  9. Restart Firefox. You have now updated Adobe Flash on Firefox.

Upgrade Now. Save Yourself a Hassle Later

From the steps above you can see performing this update is quick and painless. Allowing hackers to exploit a security bug will cause you days and days of headache. Every trader should take the easy route and upgrade today!
